Bells at Church

Hey…Father Smith!

Why do we ring that loud outdoor bell?  And, BTW, what’s up with the little tinkling bell during the Mass?

The Bells (2 of them) in the Bell Tower are aural evangelists:  they announce to the neighborhood that Jesus Christ is risen from the Dead & GSAC is celebrating that right now!

The Sanctus (‘holy’) bells are rung during Mass to draw our ears & hearts to the Mystery of Jesus Christ’s true Presence in the Blessed Sacrament of His Body and Blood.  This happens at the elevation (lifting up) of the Host & the Chalice.
